The Kittiwakes class have had a super exciting week of Easter fun. On Wednesday the Nursery children had their first outing with their Form V Buddies. At 9:00am we met our Buddies at the front of the school and paired up ready to walk to Rothampsted Park. As we walked along we chatted to our Buddies and teachers and looked for signs of spring in the gardens. We were very careful crossing the roads, looking and listening for traffic to keep ourselves safe. Once at the park we began with parachute games. We played ‘Wind a Bobbin Up’, where we all get to sit in the parachute and be twirled around, which is such fun! We then played ‘Five Little Toys Jumping on the Bed’ and used our strong arms to shake the toys high into the air and our Maths skills to count down from five to zero. There was also the ‘Fruit Salad’ game where we get to run under the parachute when our fruit name is called. Finally we enjoyed ‘Popcorn’ when we turn the parachute into a big frying pan and then toss lots of coloured balls high into the air and then run and retrieve them. After all that fun the sun came out and it got really hot so we all sat together and enjoyed lots of fruit and some chocolate treats. Whilst we were eating we didn’t realise that the Easter Bunny was hopping around the woods leaving us a tasty treat. When we spotted them we rushed off with our Buddy partners and collected a yummy chocolate egg each. Thank you Easter Bunny! We then split into three groups and played football, ‘Stuck in the Mud’ and went to climb on the big trees that had fallen down. We used lots of energy and really developed our gross motor skills and team skills. Then it was time for a ‘Mindful’ lie down on the grass listening to the birds and insects and enjoying the warmth from the sun. Finally Mrs Hughes read us a lovely story all about friendship, which was so apt after such a lovely session together with our Buddies. We then walked safely back to school with our Buddy partners. What a fabulous day and we look forward to more fun with our Buddies soon.
On Thursday we enjoyed a Mummies Stay and Play session to celebrate Mother’s Day. All the Mummies came into play during Busy Fingers and some of our younger siblings also joined in the fun. We showed our Mummies all the amazing things that we do each morning to work on our fine motor skills and all the other areas of the Early Years curriculum. They enjoyed seeing our emerging writing skills, our growing Maths knowledge, our abilities with construction toys, our interactive play in our ‘Vets’ roleplay area and our interest in the natural world learning about life cycles and planting cress seeds. After lots of lovely play we all tidied up together and then we sang our Mummies a special ‘Mother’s Day’ song which we think they all loved. Thank you for coming Mummies and Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.
