On Tuesday six girls from Form IV travelled to Akeley Wood Junior School for the U8 ISA 5 aside hockey festival. After an hour on the road in our new school bus, we arrived and were given a warm welcome by their PE staff. The sun was shining and the girls were excited to be taking part. 8 ISA schools had entered; some with just girls’ teams and some with mixed teams. We played 5 games before lunch, and 2 games afterwards. Our squad was made up of four players, who play at Harpenden Hockey club, and two girls who were relatively new to the sport. So it was a great experience for everyone. The girls worked well together, showed perseverance and skill. St Hilda’s managed to win 2, draw 3 and lose 2. Everyone enjoyed the day, and were in good voice on the way home, singing ‘Let’s go fly a kite’, as we turned the corner up to Douglas Road.
On Wednesday our Form VI girls were in action at STAHS. We put out three 5 aside teams and played against their A, B, C and D sides. All teams showed a huge improvement in passing and spatial awareness. There were some wonderful goals scored too. Credit goes to the girls for their dedication and team work. Our As lost to STAHS A / B side 11-14, Bs and Cs won their games convincingly.
