The School fosters a positive learning environment in which House Points, Head’s Stickers and Head’s Commendation Certificates are awarded at the discretion of the staff.
Pastoral care is the responsibility of the Form Teacher and emphasis is placed on the value of each individual and her personal and social development during her time at St Hilda’s. The School Code of Conduct is an integral part of the pastoral care and copies are displayed throughout the school.
The School does not tolerate bullying of any kind.
Pastoral care is discussed amongst staff during weekly Staff Meetings.
In Years 5 and 6 a Mentor system supports the girls in their preparation for the move to secondary school.
Each girl is allocated a mentor and we strive to create a good match in terms of girls and staff. Mentors meet with girls at least twice every half term.
Children are invited to apply to our school playgound squad from Forms IV to VI. The Playground Squad meet weekly to discuss children’s interactions during break times. The squad also provides support during morning break and lunch break to those children who may be looking for a friend to play with or would like to start a new game. The playground squad is supported by our resident cuddly seagull ‘Whitby.’
