How to navigate our virtual tour

For navigation around the building and grounds we have various options:

Guided tour – press the play button in the bottom left corner of the video screen. You can stop at any point on the tour to explore the rooms in more detail and view the media links. These are the red circles at various points on the tour.

3D Virtual Tour – If you have google cardboard VR headset or Samsung Gear VR headset you can become fully immersed in the 3D walkthrough. Look to the bottom right of the screen, for the ‘view in VR’ button.

Dolls House view– you can rotate the building with the mouse and just click on any room and the system will take you in to the building at that point.

Floor Plan View/Floor Selector – click on the floor plan tab and then select the floor you want to view, again just click on any room and you will enter the tour at that point.

From both the Dolls House view and Floor Plan view you will see various click points that link to 360-degree photos of the grounds. These 360 links are also visible when virtually touring the building.

FAQs

To provide you with answers to commonly asked questions, please find details of our admissions process below. For full details of our admissions process, please visit here.

What are your school’s entry points?

Entry is subject to availability throughout the school. The usual entry points are Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception. Spaces occasionally become available in classes higher up the school.

Are you currently open for tours?

The school is open again to visitors.  Please contact Mrs Fairhead, the Admissions Officer, to arrange a tour on 01582 712307.  Our virtual 360 tour is available here.

Did you provide remote learning during lockdown?

We have offered a full and varied programme of remote learning, using a range of online platforms. Children have been able to access daily live lessons across the curriculum as well as pre-recorded videos.

What is the admissions process?

Parents seeking admission for St Hilda’s should contact Mrs Fairhead, Admissions Officer, who will be pleased to organise a bespoke visit of the School with Mr Sayers, who will show them around the site and answer any questions.

Once a registration form has been completed and the most recent report from your child’s current school supplied, prospective pupils are invited to spend time in the class they are potentially joining prior to an offer being made.  For entry into Year 2 and above, applicants are required to complete a short assessment in Maths and English.

Do you offer Nursery funded places?

Nursery funding is available for Pre-Nursery children in the term after their 3rd birthday, which can be spread flexibly over two full days.

Children in the Nursery class attend every morning and their funding is spread across the week, 3 hours per day.

What facilities do you have onsite?

The School is contained within a Victorian house that has been twice extended. One end contains a Hall and Science Lab, the other has three floors containing six form rooms, an Art Room and a Performing Arts Studio. Further classrooms, a well-stocked library and a Dining Room are contained in the original house. Outside, there is a large field, a tennis and netball court, an outdoor theatre and two climbing areas. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool which is used during the summer months.

What before and after school care do you provide?

Our wrap around care begins with our very popular breakfast club held daily from 7.30am.

Our After School Club runs every day from 3.10pm to 6.00pm for all pupils from Nursery to Year 6. The pupils are supervised by qualified, experienced staff and enjoy a variety of creative activities in a safe, calm and caring environment.

Supervised prep is provided from Year 3. Our working parents have commented on how reassuring it is to have their children looked after safely in school and have appreciated spending time with them in the evening, homework free!

What destination schools do your pupils move onto?

We have an exceptional track record with almost all pupils obtaining their first choice of secondary school.  Around half of the Year 6 class are offered places at St Albans High School for Girls, with many also obtaining coveted places at Berkhamsted, Haberdashers’ Aske’s, Queenswood, Abbot’s Hill, Haileybury and North London Collegiate.

A number of girls will move onto one of the outstanding local state schools in Harpenden or St Albans, depending on catchment.

Our girls also achieve a number of scholarships, both academic and for other disciplines.  See our destination schools page for current information.

What extra-curricular opportunities do you offer?

We have a wide range of sporting, creative and performance activities; click on this page to find more information.

Activities vary over the year and there are options for every year group.
